Serial o młodzieży, jak wiele innych podobnych w amerykańskich produkcjach. Ale „Plotkara'', bo taki nosi tytuł to bardzo dynamiczny i odlotowy film, oparty na powieści Cecily von Ziegesar. Narratorką w każdym odcinku jest żywiołowa bloggerka Plotkara, której właściwie nikt nie zna. Opisuje ona codziennie ze wszystkimi szczegółami życie nastolatków z prywatnej szkoły w Nowym Jorku. Zna też wszystkie nowinki, które mają miejsce w szkole. Oczywiście opisuje też, normalne życie bogatej i zmanierowanej młodzieży, ale zawsze kończy się to niezbyt pozytywnie dla zainteresowanych. Akcja filmu rozpoczyna się, kiedy Serena van der Woodsen wraca do prywatnej szkoły. Przedtem przebywała w szkole z internatem w Connecticut. Przyjaźniła się już od dawna z Blair Waldorf, która jest w centrum zainteresowania wszystkich wokoło. Króluje ona na całym terytorium szkoły. Jest jeszcze wiele innych osób jakie możemy poznać w trakcie oglądania kolejnych odcinków. Spędzają czas nie tylko na nauce, ale także na spotkaniach i odlotowo- seksownych imprezach. Nie brakuje tu miłości, fałszywych przyjaciół i zazdrości.
