Gwiezdne wrota: Atlantyda to serial, który opiera się na serialu Gwiezdne Wrota SG-1. Oczywiście akcja serialu rozgrywa się już później po przygodach grupy SG-1 i opowiada o nowych bohaterach w świecie Gwiezdnych Wrót. Jedynie tylko w niektórych odcinkach serialu uda nam się oglądnąć wcześniejszych członków grupy SG-1. Serial Gwiezdne wrota: Atlantyda przenosi nas w galaktykę Pegaza, gdzie zostaje odnaleziona stara baza Pradawnych- Atlantyda. Dowództwo postanawia wysłać tam grupę ludzi, w celu zbadania i uzyskania jak największej bazy informacji na temat rozwiniętej rasy. Grupa badaczy nie wiedziała jednak, ze pradawni opuścili swoją bazę, żeby nie dostali jej Wraithowie. Od tamtego czasu bohaterowie toczą nieustanną walkę z Wraithami, którzy są nowym zagrożeniem dla ludzkości.
